Goliath is no match for you!

Do you have a goliath in your life? This may not necessarily be a person, but a circumstance, a struggle that seems large and ominous. This goliath tries to make itself defiant against the living God, seemingly to be resistant to His power and authority. It has a roar of intimidation, but according to scripture, it’s growl is meaningless; “he goes around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). The enemy may strut in front of you, taunting you, trying to distract you and get your attention, trying to unsettle you. He wants to dominate your thinking, your emotions and your life. Who will capture your gaze, goliath or the Lord?
If you allow the Lord, His Word, to redirect your attention to Him, you will be victorious even in the midst of difficulty. God is your Defender, your strength against the giant. He has already brought him to nought, made a spectacle of him (Colossians 2:15; Hebrews 2:14). In other words, you already have the victory in Christ. This false dominance that the enemy tries to demonstrate is just that, false! He is nothing, unless you empower him, giving in to lies, and deceits, in to fear, anxiety and worry.
In seeing who this enemy really is, you should declare your victory from the start, a victory that Jesus accomplished by His finished work on the cross. You should declare in advance how this particular battle will end. David for example, faced with his Goliath, confirmed that he was equipped “in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45). David was confident in the Lord confirming the outcome of the battle: “This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you.” David further states, “Then all this assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword or spear; for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:47). You know the result because of the victory that has already been provided to you according to the Word of God. It is not your strength, but the strength of the Lord! You may be weak, but His power is made perfect in your weakness; His grace (provision and favor) for you is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9,10). So go ahead, boast in your weakness because “the power of Christ rests upon you”!
You come against the enemy, your problem, your circumstance, in the name of the Lord God Almighty just like David did! The God of heavens armies is with you, backing you up. The Lord has already delivered this giant into your hands. He is a defeated foe by Jesus Christ. Don’t empower what has already been defeated, giving him new life through doubt, unbelief, or any other negative emotion. Don’t empower him by feelings of hopelessness. He is the defeated foe, not you! Remind yourself of what the Word states:
· This is who you are: a righteous child of God!
· This is what you have: full inheritance in the Lord!
· This is the expected outcome of the attack: victory in Jesus is already yours.
The battle belongs to the Lord (1 Samuel 17:47). It is not by your might, power or works. It is by Jesus! It is by His strength that the enemy remains a defeated foe who has no authority to rise up to win (1 Samuel 17:45-47). Be God focused, not giant focused. Choose to see God, magnify Him over your circumstance. The enemy, no matter his tactics, is no match for God! See God in all His greatness. See the enemy defeated. Because you see the ability of God, you will be able to stand in this battle, firmly planted and abiding in the Lord, knowing the outcome; expecting an experience of victory! Do not shrink from the fight. You are not alone as God is standing with you. You will not be conquered by the enemy as you abide in God. Do not retreat, but aggressively stay in the fight, focused on the Lord, on His Word, on His ability, on His equipping of you as His child. Speak His promises over your life and praise Him! Glorify His Holy Name! Know your authority in Him.
In this humble position keep focused on God. Your boast should be in His strength. If you focus on yourself, striving, and being distracted by the problem, you will fail. God must be your focus and not the circumstance. In the midst of the battle make God big and the problem small; magnify Him. Keeping your attention on the Lord in this way makes the enemy tremble. He already knows what is it like to be made a spectacle of. Remember, that you are a giant slayer backed by the power of heaven, ready to allow the Lord’s glory to flow through you, expecting and watching His deeds of power (John 14:10). Expect to experience victory in the Lord because He is with you, not against you! The enemy is seeking someone to devour, but in the humble position of knowing the Word and praising God, you are a mighty warrior. You have God’s power and authority to enter every battle head on! David shows us that this mindset, understanding the might of the Lord, results in magnificent victory against all odds.
David was unable to wear the armor provided to him by Saul when he faced Goliath because it didn’t fit him (1 Samuel 17:38,39). He was determined to go to battle outfitted with confidence in the Lord. You have that same armor of confidence available to you; you are empowered by the armor of God; “be strong in the Lord and the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10-18):
· Truth is your armor.
· Righteousness is your armor.
· The Gospel is your armor.
· Faith is your armor.
· Salvation is your armor.
· The Word is your armor.
· Prayer is your armor.
God does instruct you to take your position in Him, stand with Him, and watch Him work (2 Chronicles 20:17). He does not want you to fear or be dismayed by the battle (2 Chronicles 20:17). Instead, He asks you to be confident in Him, expecting in Him, for the Lord is with you, and through Jesus Christ, you already possess everything you need for the fight (2 Peter 1:3). And God, Who gave you Jesus, with Him, will give you everything else that you need (Romans 8:32). You are coming from a place of victory!
