Being an overcomer in the midst of hurt…

Some of our most difficult moments are when people we love and care about hurt us. Jesus experienced the same challenge. He was harmed by the very people to whom He came to show His goodness. Imagine bringing your loving care and abundant goodness to the very people who desired you to be harmed. Yet, that didn’t stop Jesus. He never decided to abandon the plan due to the actions of others. We never hear Jesus say, “I’ve changed my mind! They don’t appreciate me. Listen to them cheer on my destruction. I came to show them love, and all I get is hate. That’s it! I’m done!” Instead, Jesus was silent. He did not defend Himself. He died for the very ones that were harming Him. He died to show them His love.
Our human nature tells us to do something in the middle of hurt. Maybe we yell, or curse, or try to hurt them as they have hurt us. It is a natural reaction. However, consider this:
You have the potential of Jesus Christ living in you to handle every difficult situation. No circumstance that causes emotional stress can overtake you, causing you to fall apart.
Galatians 2:20 (TPT) confirms: “My old identity has been co-crucified with Christ and no longer lives. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives His life through me; we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that He gave Himself for me, dispensing His life into mine!”
When faced with emotional hurt, according to Scripture, are you able to deal with the problem? Are you equipped for it? How do you deal with it? Christ in you! You have been given His ability! You have His power to love in any circumstance. This is a miracle of God’s grace.
God says that people may “fight against you, but they will not prevail over you” (Jeremiah 15:20). “I am with you always to save you and protect you”, says the Lord (Jeremiah 15:20). You have the power of the Lord present with you, through you, and covering you at all times. Although you may be under attack, the Mighty One is greater and brings you through the difficulty.
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and He rescues those whose spirits are crushed” (Psalm 34:18). When emotional destruction and hurt are at the door of your heart, Jesus is right there with you! Being deeply rooted and grounded in knowing His love for you takes you through to victory. Victory is getting past the hurt and loving with His love, no matter how poorly you have been treated. You can love because you know His love.
Nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39). Having knowledge of His love and being grounded in it, while we experience hurt, helps draw us out of the pit of despair and enjoy a supernatural refreshing that takes us through and over what is attempting to drown us.
This experience that is being discussed is spiritual growth. Despite the crushing blows of emotional hurt, we are taken to a place of peace and experience strength beyond ourselves. The seed of the Word that has been planted in us has taken root with a change occurring under the surface of your life and evidenced by pressing deep into the Lord, with resulting actions of love toward the individual who has hurt you. Jesus Christ is on full display through our lives and how we handle this type of situation.
Jesus encourages you:
“I am with you as the Father was with Me when I was hurt by the people who crucified Me. I only wanted to do good and help them. They didn’t understand. But the Father strengthened Me against the hurt. Satan couldn’t prevail against Me! So, it is with you because of the presence of My Holy Spirit and My strength. I was rooted deeply in the Father; securely grounded in Him. You are secure in Me in the same way and deeply grounded. Let this fixed rooted position of being placed in Me, in My life, feed you and strengthen you, providing all of the life force that you need right now and forever.”
