Have you ever found yourself desperate for God, pleading and begging, confused, frustrated? Maybe even angry? You need wisdom, godly, skillful wisdom (Amplified Proverbs 4:5,7).
To get wisdom, is to get understanding, recognizing the importance of not turning away from God’s truth, but to treasure it; to seek it as your vital necessity (Proverbs 4:5,7). When something is vital to you, what do you do? You pursue it; go after it. You get wisdom by revelation of the Word of God. Wisdom is powerful!
The beginning of wisdom is to know that you need it (Proverbs 4:7) Once you are convinced that you need wisdom, God says, “Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of My mouth” (Proverbs 4:5). Wisdom is obtained from the Word of God, and sealed in your heart. You keep wisdom by reading God’s Word, speaking it out loud, meditating on it, pondering it, writing it down. You must get understanding, discernment and interpretation of God’s wisdom (Amplified Proverbs 4:5); this is seeking God as your vital necessity because you are fully persuaded of the importance of Him and His Word. You must determine that godly wisdom is valuable. When the Word says that God has given you everything you need for life and godliness by knowledge of Him, if you value His wisdom, you search for the specifics of these things that He has given to you. You search His Word; you mine it like you are mining for treasure.
Why is wisdom vital to your life? Wisdom is your life (Proverbs 4:13)! Wisdom protects you and guards you (Proverbs 4:6) because it provides excellent instruction about everything; it prevents you from making foolish mistakes. “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction (in living a holy life, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose and action),” (Amplified 2 Timothy 3:16). It causes the years of your life to be many (Proverbs 4:10). It leads you on the path of skillful living (Proverbs 4:11). On that path, God’s path, you thrive and it honors Him. On His path you are secure and guided by Him, and you participate in His blessings. Wisdom causes you to walk with unhampered steps; your path is clear and open; you run and you do not stumble (Amplified Proverbs 4:12). Wisdom is God’s instruction for your life, so you must take firm hold of it (Proverbs 4:13). Godly wisdom is the essence of your life and everything without it is failure! He is the Way-Maker!
God’s wisdom is for your benefit. It is His intention to get good things to you. He desires that you live a fruitful life, experiencing the victory that He has already established for you. It is by His wisdom that you are able to participate in every promise. “Jesus came that you may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows)” (Amplified John 10:10).
By God’s wisdom you know that even in the midst of trial you are in a place of unlimited faith; you possess His faith (Galatians 2:20; Galatians 5:22,23; 1 John 4:17), the perfect amount of faith (Romans 12:3). If you are experiencing a challenge, by wisdom you know that you are fully equipped for that challenge. You have the opportunity to be strengthened by your Provider (Philippians 4:13) and request what you need for the trial (1 John 5:14,15); you have the petitions that you have asked! Your victory is guaranteed because you go through to success only because of His ability in and through you.
By God’s wisdom you know that Jesus is your living hope. Being crucified and raised from the dead, He gave you hope because of His finished work; you possess His fullness; you are just like Jesus now is this world (1 John 4:17). You are kept and guarded by His power through faith, hopeful of receiving His promises both now on this earth and in heaven when you are completely transformed (1 Peter 1:5).
The importance of wisdom has been revealed, but life may be distracting, trying to derail you from God’s truth. We must not be distracted (Hebrews 12:2). In the midst of life, you must purposefully determine that you will seek the Lord as your vital need. You must keep your focus on Him, renewing your mind daily to His truth. This keeps you alert in the midst of challenges. We are instructed to keep focused on Him for our peace (Isaiah 26:3), and for our mind to be transformed by Him, avoiding worldly influence upon our thinking (Romans 12:1). This is godly wisdom! This helps you to establish yourself on hope. You hope in His divine favor, His promises to you. By the work of Jesus, He has established you in hope. Wisdom, revelation of Jesus, is to have revelation of hope.
Receiving godly wisdom means time alone with the Lord. Relationship with Him is essential for receiving wisdom. You must pursue Him! Jesus shows us that spending time with His Father was necessary for Him as well. When Jesus needed wisdom in choosing the twelve apostles, He spent an entire night with Him (Luke 6:12-13). Jesus prays to the Father as noted in John 17:8; “For I have given them the words which You have given Me;”. In order to give the Father’s words of wisdom He had to receive them first. After ministering, healing and teaching, Jesus departed to the mountain to pray (Mark 6:46). If Jesus, the Son of God needed godly wisdom, we certainly need the same! If you are deficient in wisdom, ask for it! God will give it to you liberally, ungrudgingly, and without fault-finding (James 1:5). But you must ask in faith and believing, without doubting, in order to benefit from your request (James 1:6-8). So, ask for wisdom, as it is necessary for victorious living!
