These words confirm an amazing truth that can change your life: “…as Jesus is, so are you in this world” (1 John 4:17). This is what happens when you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son; when you believe in Jesus and the Father Who sent Him!
How could this be true? God states in His word “But God is so rich in mercy and loves us with such intense love that, even when we were dead because of our acts of disobedience, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ: (He gave us the very life of Christ Himself) (Ephesians 2:4,5). “Because we really are His children, God as sent the Holy Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying Abba, Father!” (Galatians 4:6). Jesus Spirit and your spirit are one! You are the finished work of Love!
Consider now Who Jesus is. Jesus is worthy. The Father loves the Son and the Son loves the Father. Jesus is blessed by the Father. (Philippians 2:6-11) The Father gave Jesus strength, wisdom and ability when He lived as a human being upon this earth. Jesus was and is worthy of receiving from the Father and living in His fullness. “It pleased the Father that all the divine fullness (the sum total of divine perfection, powers, and attributes) should dwell in Jesus permanently” (Amplified: Colossians 1:19).
Just like Jesus, because of Jesus and His work of the cross, you too are worthy to receive. Just like Jesus, so too are you now in this world (according to who you are in the spirit)! When the Father sees you, He sees Jesus. That pleases Him.
There is no evaluating yourself to determine if you are worthy or deserving. Jesus has made you worthy and deserving (Hebrews 10:14). To judge otherwise is to judge Jesus and what He accomplished for you. There is no difference between you and Jesus. Your spirits are inseparable, glued together as one. All purity and holiness that Jesus is, so too are you now in this world according to your spirit, one with His Spirit. There is no difference between Jesus and you!
Being like Jesus, you don’t need to prove your goodness. Your actions don’t make you good. Believing in Jesus makes you good. You are God’s own handiwork, His workmanship, recreated in Christ Jesus, born anew…” (Ephesians 2:10). Accepting His gift, by His sacrifice, is an act of humble obedience. You are good, gentle, and kind because Jesus is good, gentle, and kind (Galatians 5:22). And just like your goodness is not tied to your actions, neither can sin affect your goodness. Jesus judged sin forever (Hebrews 9:26). Jesus has made you who you are, worthy to receive and participate in the blessings of the Father. Every good thing you are and every good thing you have, comes from Jesus (James 1:17). He made it possible for you to receive. Your job is to believe! That is your humble position. There is nothing you can do to make God move or push Him away from you (Romans 8:35-39). When you believe you will see the glory of God (John 11:40)!
Know, like Jesus, when you speak to the Father, He hears you. He is a ready listener, attentive to you, desiring you and the time you spend together. He cares for you affectionately and watchfully (1 Peter 5:7). He desires to give you only good gifts (2 Peter 1:3; Romans 8:32). Think about what pleasure the Father has in the Son. That is exactly the pleasure that the Father has in you! He loves you just like He loves Jesus (John 17:22,23). No action on your part can alter this tender place that you hold in the Father’s heart! (Ephesians 1:4-8)
In Jesus, because of Jesus, you are uncontaminated. Your spirit was sealed the moment you believed (Ephesians 1:13). Then the manifestation of the great plan, completed in Jesus, was able to come forth, a born-again child of God birthed! In the flesh, you now contain divine fullness (2 Peter 1:4). This miracle has made you who you are today. Without any effort on your part, accept to believe what Jesus did and Who He is, you are forever cleansed of every impurity. You share Jesus’ inheritance (Galatians 4:7). All the desires and love the Father has toward Jesus, He has toward you. This receiving of the magnificent gift of the Father is an act of obedience based on the foundation of love.
You are not righteous of yourself, as no action on your part could make it so (Romans 3:24-26). This is a humble stance before the Lord. You can not change your sinful nature. It is not within your power. It is only the Father’s power through Jesus that can make this possible. Your surrender to Him, to receive this change by His grace, to admit that you are powerless which causes the miracle to occur. He creates a new heart in you and new desires that line up with His desires. Yes, you are a work in progress as the soulish areas (mind, will and emotions) have not been sanctified (made holy like your spirit is holy). But daily, as you spend time with Jesus, little by little, that is changing to reflect who you are in your spirit.
As Jesus did, so too should you do, put faith to work! Faith is your servant (Luke 17:5-10). Even the smallest amount of faith is capable of supernatural things (Luke 17:6). Faith doesn’t need to be great in size, but faith needs to be confident in and trusting God. Because you are just like Jesus you have His faith as you are united with Him. You have like precious faith, the same as the apostles had, received through the righteousness of God and our Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:1). And as the Father worked through Jesus because of His faith, performing signs and wonders, so He will work through you (John 14:10).
Jesus asks, “Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me” (John 14:10)? Believing this truth should help you to understand that since you are united with Jesus, you are also united with the Father through Him. Jesus confirms this is John 17: 22,23: “I (Jesus) in them and You (Father) in Me; that they may be made perfect in one…” It is impossible to consider what Jesus said and think about any self-righteousness. All of your goodness and ability comes from Jesus! And by His ability you are able to take wayward thoughts captive and bring your flesh and emotions in line under His truths and His authority (2 Corinthians 10:5). Decide that the soulish areas of your life (mind, will and emotions) will not rule you! You owe everything to Jesus! The Father, through Jesus, has taken you out of a dark pit and brought into the light; He has drawn you to Himself, out of the kingdom of darkness, into the Kingdom of the Son of His love (Colossians 1:13)!
