“What will you see with? Will you see with the eyes of faith? Will you see with your spiritual eyes? Will you see with the eyes of doubt? Do you see according the Word?” The Lord challenged me with these questions. He challenged me with these Scriptures:
“It is the Spirit Who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The Words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life” (John 6:63).
“Give attention to My Words…for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh” (Proverbs 4:20,22).
“Meditate on My Word day and night… for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8).
Then the Lord challenged me again; “Do you seek My Word as your vital necessity?” I pondered that a vital necessity is like air or water. It must be taken in daily, consistently, in order for me to survive; they are essential and without them I would die!
As I pondered God’s Word, I realized that I have been doing some things in my own strength, by my own understanding, but on the ground of God’s Word, I will see differently, do differently, speak differently, and lean to His understanding and His ways of thinking and doing. I must not be wise in my own eyes. (Proverbs 3:5,7; Luke 5:5)
Peter demonstrated exactly what the Lord was saying. ““Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your Word I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking” (Luke 5:5,6). I am certain that Peter was tired from fishing all night in his own strength. But when Jesus spoke, he leaned not to his own understanding. When Jesus spoke, He turned failure into success. Sarah Pearson’s of Pearson’s Ministries states this: “If Jesus can capture your gaze, He can change your circumstances!” Jesus had captured Peter’s gaze; he was listening and valued what Jesus said. Peter’s circumstances changed upon the Word of Jesus!
No matter the length of time the circumstances in our life have prevailed, the natural is no match for Jesus! The man at the pool of Bethesda had been ill for thirty-eight years. But one Word from Jesus changed everything! “Rise”, Jesus said. “Take up your bed and walk!” And the man rose up and walked! (John 5:5-9) Jesus’ words have creative power to do, to accomplish what He has spoken. If you believe you will see the manifestation of what God has spoken to you (Luke 1:45).
Jesus was a commander; He spoke commanding words and things changed. Look at some of His commands:
"Come!” Peter walked on the water. (Matthew 14:29)
“Lazarus, come forth!” Lazarus rose from the dead. (John 11:43,44)
“I am willing. Be cleansed!” The man with leprosy was healed. (Matthew 8:3)
“Peace, be still!” The wind ceased and the seas quieted at Jesus words. (Mark 4:41)
What about today, for you and me? Do the words of Jesus Christ, the words that we find in the Bible, do they hold the same potential for impact and power? Hebrews 13:8 says that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” He says in Malachi 3:6 “For I am the Lord, I do not change;” God tells us in Philippians 2:10,11 that He has elevated Jesus’ name above every name, and that at Jesus’ name every knee must bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth. Yet, God says, that He has “magnified His Word above all His name (Psalm 138:2)!”
“All Scripture is given by the inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). Every Word from the Lord contains the power of fulfillment. God describes His Word: “Is not My Word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?” (Jeremiah 23:29)
So, I challenge you, as the Lord challenged me, seek His Word as your vital necessity! Evaluate if you are seeing things with your spiritual eyes, that is according to His Word. Are you leaning to your understanding, evaluating His Word by your circumstances, or leaning to His understanding and evaluating your circumstances by His Word?
