The Word Creates a Well-Balanced and Firm Stand with Extraordinary Results

Have you ever heard the voice of the Lord through His Word? Perhaps during a struggle, He said I have invigorated and strengthened you with the might of My power (Colossians 1:11). Or after praying according to His Word, which is His will He said, I have heard and answered you, and now you have what you have prayed for as your present possession (1 John 5:14,15). During a time of doubt, He said, you trust Me; you will not be put to shame or be disappointed. Confidence in Me has great reward (Psalm 25:3; Hebrews 10:35). When you felt like a failure seeing only your shortcomings He said, I am doing a work in you to will and to do for My good pleasure. You are My workmanship (Philippians 2:13; Ephesians 2:10). When you doubted His love He said, I chose you in love to be My very own (Ephesians 1:4). God’s Word is His integrity. Once He has spoken it is settled; “All of God’s promises are yes and amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20). He will not alter the Word that has gone out from His lips (Psalm 89:34). “It is impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18). “The Word of the Lord endures forever” (1 Peter 1:25). “The Word that God speaks is alive and full of power” (Hebrews 4:12). Once God has blessed it cannot be reversed (Numbers 23:20). Every Word that goes forth out of God’s mouth is sent with purpose and that purpose will be accomplished (Isaiah 55:11).

God’s Word has the power to fulfill itself. It is a creative force that from the beginning of time has demonstrated its ability to bring forth life (Genesis 1). When He gives a command, it contains His power to bring that thing into this natural realm. But you must mix His Word with your faith (Hebrews 4:2). You must believe what He said is true.

Jesus commanded His disciples to get into a boat and go to the other side following the multiplication of five loaves of bread and two fish, enough to feed more than five thousand, with some left over. Based on this miracle they had just witnessed; the conclusion might be that they should have trusted and believed Jesus. But a storm rose and tossed the boat violently during their journey across the sea, requiring Jesus to intervene by coming to them by walking on the water. Should the presence of the storm have diminished or altered the Word of God? No! Did He lie telling them to cross over to the other side? No! He is not a man that He should lie. His Word had enough power to fulfill itself and get the disciples to their destination.

During the storm, as Jesus approached, Peter said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water” (Matthew 14:28). Jesus spoke one Word in response to the question; “Come” (Matthew 14:29). That one Word had the power to sustain Peter, causing him to walk on the water during a storm and remain standing. But, like the doubt that distracted the disciples' journey across the sea in the middle of a storm, Peter had the same doubt as he too was distracted by the adversity of wind and waves. He faltered and sank! There was no demonstration that they were considering the Words of their Master, or believing what He said. Even after exposure to a great miracle of multiplication, the powerful Words that had a creative source to sustain them did not. Was the Word filled with limitation? No. Unbelief of the Word of God had shut them out from receiving the blessing that had been spoken (Hebrews 3:19).

Abraham had a much different experience. God spoke to Abraham confirming that he would be the father of many nations (Romans 4:17). That Word, just like the Word that was spoken to the disciples contained the power of God to fulfill what He said. Abraham saw trouble with his eyes, just like the disciples saw trouble. He saw an aging and impotent body of himself and his wife Sarah. But when he saw it, it did not weaken his faith (Romans 4:19). Instead, Abraham considered only what God had spoken. He had no unbelief or distrust (Romans 4:20). Because he believed that God was mighty and able to keep His Word, and do what He said, Abraham gave praise and glory to God before he experienced the manifestation of the Word (Romans 4:21). Had the disciples done this, they would have made it to the other side just as Jesus had spoken.

It is hard when a storm is raging, when your senses perceive the crashing waves of trouble, and your emotions dominate the experience. But this is the time to decide if you will be fully persuaded by the Word of God, or if you will magnify the problem. When you hear the Word, you must decide to mix it with faith, with believing, with absolute trust and confidence in God’s power, wisdom, and goodness (Hebrews 4:2). During the challenge, human reason for hope being gone, hope in faith because God said (Romans 4:18). God’s promise cannot be broken; you will not be disappointed! “…rejoice and exult in your hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God” now (Romans 5:2), yes, even before you see it with your eyes! Belief opens the door to receive God’s promise. Don’t allow natural facts to dictate a lie. Psalm 27:13 (Amplified) says, “(What would have become of me) had I not believed that I would see the Lord’s goodness in the land of the living.” Perhaps the answer might be that you may become a hopeless victim of unbelief, shut out from receiving the blessings that God has promised which are part of your inheritance as His child. Instead in hopeful expectation of the Word of God, believing provides rest; a knowing that the Lord is indeed the Shepherd Who (“feeds, guides and shields me), I shall not lack” (Psalm 23:1 Amplified). The pressure of the storm, therefore, only causes a strengthening of faith, a building of endurance and patience with joy, as you believe the Word of God. As you maintain your stand of fearless confidence on the foundation of His Word, you enjoy the fullness of His promise (Hebrews 10:36). The power of the Word itself sustains you!

So, during trials, your need for wisdom, seeking during problems, search God’s Word for His promise. Then stand on that Word being fully persuaded, and keep standing. Praise Him for truth, for His might and ability, for watching over that Word to fulfill it. Consider your prayer answered praising before you see it, because God said! When the problem pressures you, keep standing on what He has said knowing that nothing can alter His Word. God has promised, and you will not be disappointed!
