His humble life is our victory

God confirms that He gave Jesus the place of highest honor. This occurred because Jesus surrendered Himself in obedience to the Father: Jesus became human taking the humble position of being a slave and His obedience led to a criminal’s death. (Philippians 2:6-9) But His obedience also led to something else. Jesus was given “the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth,” (Philippians 2:9,10).
Jesus Christ established victory over the enemy through His humility and He received a place of honor and authority. This position provides great benefit to those who believe that He is the Son of God. By God’s grace, we have the privilege of the power of Jesus’ name. In the midst of challenges, mountains of difficulty before us, we speak and order those mountains moved in Jesus’ name (Mark 11:22-24), experiencing the victory that Jesus established. We honor the authority of Jesus by using His name. We honor Him and demonstrate trust and confidence in Him by using His name. We should be in expectation each time we use Jesus’ name. Remember, Jesus Christ has the place of highest honor, and we demonstrate our belief in that place, above every circumstance, when we speak His name against the threat.
The Gospels show us the response of the enemy to Jesus. Pick any Gospel, and His authority was visible. His resistance against satan is demonstrated in the wilderness. Jesus was tempted, but the enemy failed to move Him. Jesus demonstrated the power of the Father through Him by signs, wonders, miracles, wisdom and authority filled teaching. In the Garden of Gethsemane, although Jesus was overcome with grief, He was not defeated by the tactics of satan. Jesus demonstrated that He was not overtaken by being offended when mocked and ridiculed. Even on the walk of death to the cross He remained steadfast to the plan and silent, not defending Himself. The Father’s power through Him was seen by the crucifixion and resurrection. Jesus always demonstrated the power and the authority present within Him.
As a result, the devil knows his place. He staggers at the name of Jesus! He flees at the name of Jesus! There is magnificent immeasurable and unlimited power in Jesus’ name! Nothing can stand against Him (Psalm 9:3). This fact should impact your life!
We learn from Jesus that we too need to be humble, that there is value in being humble. In this humble position, submitting to Him, we resist the devil and he flees from us as well. This is also a humble position of honoring the Lord. There is great strength in this position. We live from a place of victory, in this position. As we humble ourselves, God actually lifts us up! (James 4:7-10) In this position we are also drawing near to God, near to His grace, near to experiencing the fullness of His love for us. (James 4:8)
There is something else that is marvelous for the believer. The One Whose name is above every name, Who has this place of honor, has chosen to reside in us! Jesus came as a servant humbling Himself and still humbles Himself, by choosing to share His glory with each of us! He did not hesitate to place His divine fullness in our spirits, having unity with us! While we are a human vessel, Jesus entered in making His home in us! At home in us He provides all divine fullness, powers and attributes (Colossians 1:19).
Understanding all of this certainly brings us to a place of giving Jesus honor and glory! We praise Him for His greatness, and the outpouring of blessing upon us. This brings us to a place of desiring to tell of His marvelous deeds (Psalm 9:1,2). We recognize how gracious and loving He is toward us.
I leave you with one final thought from The Message Bible: based on the above, “Who would dare tangle with one of God’s chosen” (Romans 8:31-39)?
