Understanding Your Position Gives You the Right View

Your position will determine your view. A front-row seat at your favorite sporting event gives you the perfect experience of the game. Sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean, you enjoy the crashing waves and the spectacular sunset. Understanding your position as you journey on this earth also determines your view. According to God’s Word, you have a position as His child. He “raised you up together with Jesus and made you sit down together, giving you joint seating with Him in the heavenly sphere by virtue of you being in Christ Jesus, the Messiah, the Anointed One” (Amplified Ephesians 2: 5,6). WOW! That’s a mouthful that takes some digesting! It would seem that this position must be talking about going to heaven and being with Jesus after you die. No. This verse confirms your position right now.

God gave you union with Jesus when you believed in Christ as His Son; “God gave you the very life of Christ Himself” (Amplified Ephesians 2:5). Your spirit and Jesus' Spirit are the same. Therefore, as Jesus is so are you (1 John 4:17). Where is Jesus right now? The Father “raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in heavenly places” (Amplified Ephesians 1:20). By virtue of you being united with Jesus, your spirit is seated in the same position. How could that be and what does it mean?

First, remember that this discussion is focused on a spiritual truth. You have received the “Spirit who is from God” (1 Corinthians 2:12). You have union with God by your union with Jesus, through the Holy Spirit. Colossians 2:10 explains that “In Christ, you too are filled with the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This confirms your position. To see yourself in this position requires revelation of this truth. Revelation of your spiritual position changes everything!

Where Jesus is seated, He has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18; Ephesians 1:21). Seated with Him you are blessed with the privilege of having His authority. Freely, by grace, you have been given the power of the Kingdom; you are to use it and freely release it to benefit others (Matthew 10:8). The Father wants you to know and understand the greatness of His power that He has placed within you, within your spirit, through your union with Jesus Christ (Ephesians 1:19). This position gives you a view of your conquering position in Jesus.

Carrie Pickette, author of a devotional, “Fighting with Peace” describes your position this way. “If I can see myself seated with God, I am the one looking down on problems. I don’t tell my mountain how big it is; rather I tell my mountain how big my God is!” Understanding your position changes your perspective. Hope and expectation come alive as you recognize that you are empowered by God Almighty with His force. Problems will try to deceive you that all of this is a lie. The purpose of this deceitful distraction is to change your view, to make you experience weakness, and to divert your attention to the problem. When this occurs, the problem is magnified and your powerful position gives way to natural circumstances that God has placed beneath your feet. Your position all the while is above, where Jesus is seated, equipped with His divine fullness. But the experience is unfortunately very different because the view is different. The excellent position is suddenly blocked from clarity. The mountain begins to speak loudly, and acts to intimidate. Although your position has not changed, intimidation causes a change of perspective.

The basis of truth, no matter how bold the mountain of challenge speaks, must be God’s Word. Experiences and opinions should not alter the truth. Leaning to your own understanding attempts to weaken your position. Only trusting the Lord with all of your heart, and acknowledging Him, keeps you on the narrow path of victory, with His Word lighting your way (Proverbs 3:5,6; Psalm 119:105). A decision must be made to be settled on this matter, otherwise, it is easy to be like a wave of the ocean tossed to and fro (James 1:6).

Believing in the Lord and His Word provides a different experience. Psalms 27:13,14 confirms when you believe you will see and experience the “Lord’s goodness in the land of the living”. This goodness flows from your position of unity with Jesus. In this position, you are in expectation and hope in the Lord. You are confident in everything that He has told you, not necessarily by experience, but because of His Word; that is your grounding place of hope. You hope not according to human standards but hope by faith. “Faith perceives as real fact what is not revealed to your senses” (Amplified Hebrews 11:1). You believe based on the Word of God. You will never be disappointed or put to shame as you trust and wait hopefully on the Lord (Psalm 25:3). Confidence in Him has great reward (Hebrews 10:35). You are established in confidence because of your position of unity with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
