The Magnificent Blessing of Seeing with Spiritual Eyes

Seeing according to the Word, with the eyes of faith, that is to see beyond your natural vision, means that as soon as you see a problem or experience trouble, you know there is a solution. You know by faith that you have your answer. Whatever satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy, know that Jesus came with life in abundance (John 10:10). Jesus is your answer! The trouble should stimulate a response of hope in the finished work of Jesus by the cross. His finished work has supplied everything that you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).

Elisha, the prophet, was faced with a great challenge. God had blessed him to know things that were about to happen. This equipped Elisha to offer protection to the King of Israel as he shared this godly insight. However, Elisha’s ability to inform the King was discovered by the enemy, and they came against him with a mighty force. But when Elisha saw the enemy, he also saw the power and presence of God to intervene on his behalf. He was confident in God’s provision to care for him. (2 Kings 6:8-20)   It should be the same with you. He is the same God with the same power that is with you and for you today (Hebrews 13:8)! What do you see? What has more value to you, natural vision or spiritual eyes of faith? What persuades you more? Where is your confidence? Remember, all earthly things are subject to change. All things according to the Word of God, His truth, will never change! (Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; Psalm 119:89)

When you see a problem, see the Lord as your solution. When you encounter a problem, view it as temporary and subject to change by the power of God, and know His power is greater. His power surpasses any threat! Challenges still require you to stand, well-balanced, firm in faith, believing in the Greater One (Hebrews 10:35,36; 1 Peter 5:8,9). That stand will cause you to experience the glory of God! You may not fully understand the situation you are experiencing, or have the answer you require, but you should know that because God is the Greater One, nothing can stand against Him (1 John 4:4)! Start from the position of what you do know. Don’t take a stand based on how you feel or only what you are seeing with your natural eyes. Remember, everything but the Word of God is subject to change, a change caused by God’s power that is immeasurable and unlimited (Ephesians 1:19). This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, healed the sick, calmed the storms, and fed thousands. The enemy couldn’t stop God then, and he can’t stop Him now.

God teaches us to look beyond what we see with our eyes by another example. Saul was being replaced as king. When the prophet Samuel examined possible choices for the position, he visited the sons of Jesse. David was the youngest of seven sons and therefore slight compared to his older brothers, who were impressive in stature. But, upon instruction from the Lord, Samuel did not consider the outward appearance. He looked beyond to see with spiritual eyes and viewed David’s heart. The most unlikely decision by natural observation was made: David would be king! (1 Samuel 16:6-13)

When you observe the crucifixion of Jesus, it is obvious to see a wooden cross of torture and the life of Jesus ending in death. But you know by the Word of God the finished work of Jesus was accomplished by that cross, by His suffering and death. By revelation, you know something beyond what you see with natural eyes that observe a picture of only death and destruction.  You are seeing a truth with spiritual eyes; Jesus suffered and died, but He lives!

You do not see spiritual truths by wishful thoughts. You are seeing by a truth that is real and never subject to change. You see a truth that is firmer than any natural fact. You are seeing according to the Word of God! This is an established foundation of reality. This is why knowing the Word of God is essential for your life and your success.

Consider the woman with years of bleeding problems (Mark 5:25-34). Her actions to seek Jesus were based on what she saw with spiritual eyes and understanding. This truth about healing and who Jesus was had become her reality; she was fully persuaded and went after it. It was against the law for her to do so. Would this woman have pursued a fantasy and risked her life, breaking the law? No, but she knew the truth and was fully persuaded. Spiritual understanding was her foundation of reality. She knew beyond what her body was telling her. Abraham experienced a similar situation (Romans 4:17-21). He was persuaded that God was mighty and able to keep His promise, even though his body and his wife Sarah’s were shouting against the promise of God. Their steadfast position caused the miracle of Isaac’s birth.

God is changing your perspective. He is encouraging you today to pursue what you understand by His truth and see with spiritual eyes. He is changing how you see. And if God can capture your gaze, keeping your eyes on His truth, He can change your circumstances. Who will you magnify? What will you magnify? Who and what has captured your attention?

Elisha saw a force surrounding him that was mighty and strong. Without knowing a greater truth than what he saw, he would have been overcome. But Elisha knew the Lord and saw something beyond his natural vision. This is why Elisha could say to his servant who could not see with spiritual understanding, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16); Elisha saw by his spiritual eyes, a heavenly army, the forces of God Almighty surrounding him and his servant, much greater than the natural army that had come against them. He saw the problem, but he also saw the solution to the problem because Elisha knew the truth of God, and he was fully persuaded. God is always greater than that which comes to kill, steal, and destroy!
