The Hidden Treasure of God in You!

You died and your life is hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3). What part of you died? What part of you was crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20; Colossians 3:3)? What part of you is hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3)? What part of you is sealed, pure, holy and just like Jesus (Ephesian 1:13; Hebrews 10:14; 1 John 4:17)? What part of you contains the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22,23)? What part of you has the Spirit of God, and the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:12,16)?

The Word of God gives insight to answer these questions. “Therefore, if any person is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old (previous moral and spiritual condition) has passed away. What is the new creation; what part passed away? Behold, the fresh and new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17)! What part of you is fresh and new? Ephesians 3:16 reflects a prayer that talks about “being strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man”. What is the inner man?

The Word of God further explains. 1 Thessalonians 5:23 confirms that we are “spirit, soul, and body”. The body is easy to understand, that is the flesh part. We can look at our aging bodies and conclude that the flesh has not been made new; and we are still alive, so the flesh was not crucified with Jesus! Scripture tells us that our minds are still in need of renewing (Romans 12:2) so the mind is not holy, and new; and we do not always think pure thoughts as Jesus does. So, “the mind of Christ” is not actually in our mind. Our emotions also do not always reflect characteristics of the fruit of the Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Additionally, sometimes we are stubborn, and our will and God’s will are not always aligned. What should we conclude?

We are a three part being with spirit, soul, and body. The flesh is flesh; the soul is our mind, will and emotions. Our spirit is the part of us that was crucified with Christ, hidden in Christ, sealed with the Holy Spirit, made a new creation, is pure and holy, is just like Jesus, has the Spirit of God, the fruit of the Holy Spirit and has the mind of Christ. Your spirit is born of the Spirit (John 3:6). In your spirit you possess the immeasurable, unlimited resurrection power of God Almighty (Ephesians 1:19)! You are a partaker of the divine fullness of God Almighty (2 Peter 1:4)! In Christ you are filled with the Godhead, Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Colossians 2:10)! You are God’s workmanship, recreated in Christ Jesus, (born anew) that you may do those good works which God planned for you to walk in” (Ephesians 2:10).

Understanding that you are spirit, soul, and body, helps you to understand Scripture. For example, Jesus, in His prayer to the Father (John 17), prayers “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me” (vs 23). Jesus states in verse 22, that He has given us His glory! The transformed, perfect part of you, that part that has His glory, is your spirit. Having confirmation by God’s Word of who you are in your spirit, helps you to press into the Lord, to dig deep in His Word, because you are amazing in Him! You are fully equipped in Him! You have everything you need for life and godliness through Him! And it is through the knowledge of Him, intimacy with Him, renewing your mind according to His Word, that you are able to live by your spirit, which is one with His Spirit, and live the abundant life that He has planned for you (2 Peter 1:3). You have His ability to live from His glory which is in your spirit! Set your mind on things above, not on things on this earth, remembering that you died (your sinful nature, your old man, your old spirit), and now your life (your spirit) is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:2,3). You are amazing! You have His capability to live as Jesus lived right now in this world!
