This world can be very distracting. It presents problems loudly, often attempting to drown out God's voice, causing us to doubt His Word and respond emotionally with hopelessness, anxiety, depression, and frustration. He is a mighty God despite the insinuations that challenge us to believe otherwise. Examining God's character helps us live with an understanding of His mightiness, which provides hope and establishes us steadfastly in Him.
Jesus shows us the Father; He is the visible representation of an invisible God; the exact likeness of God Almighty (Hebrews 1:3; Colossians 1:15). Through Jesus we know the Father, know His ability, and know His will. Each time that Jesus was confronted with the devil, He was triumphant. He proved that by successfully resisting the temptation from satan that He faced while in the wilderness (Matthew 4). Also, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38). Jesus proved God’s power by enduring the cross despite the agony of it. Jesus possessed His Father’s ability, immeasurable and unlimited power (Ephesians 1:19). Eventually, this power resurrected Jesus and placed Him above all authority, power, and dominion (Ephesians 1:21 Amplified). Jesus’ name was placed above every name (Philippians 2:10). This resurrecting power of the Father equipped Him to triumph over satan making a bold display and public example of him (Colossians 2:15 Amplified). By God’s power, He brought satan “to nought and made him of no effect” (Hebrew 2:14)! Nothing is impossible for God (Luke 1:37)!
It is essential to gain an understanding of these truths, otherwise, we will be tossed like the wave of the ocean, succumbing to the loud and disturbing voices of a fallen world. When we understand the might of God, we must also understand that we are in union with Him by Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:5)! His power is being infused into us by this union (Philippians 4:13). Ephesians 1:19 confirms the “greatness of His power is in you and for you who believe”.
Knowing God’s mightiness, helps us to be certain that no one and nothing is a match for God! Knowing His might helps us when confronted with distractions, doubt, and unbelief to humble ourselves before God, take a stand, resist the devil, and be confident that he will flee from us; flee from our body, our thoughts, our emotions, and our circumstances (James 4:7). Knowing His mightiness, we are well balanced, rooted, established, strong, immovable and determined because the power of God is our source (1 Peter 5:8,9 Amplified). We are equipped and “strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10). Therefore, we can withstand all evil and keep standing (Ephesians 6:13); it’s not our power but God’s and He is always sufficient!
This is a picture of an individual who believes in the power of God and the weakness of the enemy to stand against Him:
“And in no way be alarmed or intimidated (in anything) by your opponents, for such (constancy and fearlessness on your part) is a (clear) sign (a proof and a seal) for them of (their impending) destruction, but (a clear sign) for you of deliverance and salvation, and that too, from God” (Philippians 1:28 Amplified). God has a “power no foe can withstand” (Psalm 91:1). Find rest and confidence in knowing our Father is the Greater One!
