From the first moments of creation, we see that God created everything in an orderly fashion. Once the earth was established and provision was supplied, then man and woman were created. The word says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). Pondering this truth and studying the Word, confirms that this same loving God has prepared all that is needed for each person today.
2 Peter 1:3 states that By “God’s divine power He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him…” Romans 8:32 says, “He who did not withhold or spare His own Son but gave Him up for us all, will He not also with Him freely and graciously give us all other things?” Philippians 4:19 notes, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” John 10:10 states, “I (Jesus) came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
“Everything that pertains to life and godliness” confirms that everything a person needs on this earth has been supplied. This suggests that the moment we were born the supply is there for every aspect of life and every aspect of godliness. Our problems or challenges in life, do not create the supply. The supply has already been satisfied by God to meet every need. However, the Word also confirms a key element which is that the provision is available but it is through the “knowledge of God”. We must know Him; we must be intimate with Him. To be intimate with Him means we must spend time in His Word.
Some examples of specific provisions that God has given to us for life and godliness:
Scripture confirms by “Jesus stripes that wounded Him, we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5). Matthew 8:17 references this Word stating that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy. And 1 Peter 2:24 again references the prophecy and its completion in Jesus by noting, “by whose stripes you were healed”. So, healing is another provision that God has made for us. Again, however, it is dependent upon the “knowledge of God”. Remember, our knowledge of God comes from the Word and spending time with Him. Proverbs 3:22 links the two and tells us that the Word of God is extremely important; “For they (the Word) is life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh”. Proverbs 3 instructs us to give attention to God’s Word; incline your ear to My sayings; do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart” (Proverbs 3:20,21). God tells us that His Word is wisdom and a treasure, and we should seek the Word as silver, and search for it as a hidden treasure (Proverbs 2:1-4). God told Joshua that his success was dependent upon meditating upon the Word (“the Book of the Law”) day and night; that is how he would be prosperous and have good success (Joshua 1:8).
When we need strength, the provision is made. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). The Word teaches us the ways that Christ has strengthened us. Ephesians 6 describes the armor of God which prepares us in His strength to live our life; “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of His might” (vs 1). Step by step the Lord explains that we must know who we are in Christ (our righteousness); be stable upon the foundation of the Word of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ; use your faith as a shield against the enemy (Romans 10:17: Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God); understand your blessing of salvation (Salvation comes from the Greek word Sozo meaning forgiveness, protection, healing, provision; basically, abundant life.); use your weapon, the Word of God against the enemy’s attack. This armor highlights the importance of knowing the Word of God in order for you to be properly armored and strengthened.
In our flesh we struggle. We may strive to change ourselves, our actions, our emotions and our thinking. But God has provided a way for us to change. “(Not in your own strength), for it is God who is all the while effectually at work in you (energizing and creating in you the power and desire), both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight” (Philippians 2:13).
These are a few examples of the provision that God has made for us to experience life in abundance through Him, “everything we need for life and godliness” provided for by God through Jesus Christ, His Son! So, explore the treasure of His Word, mine it, consider it your vital necessity, and unearth all of His benefits to you.
